This safety shield guards against impact or inadvertent contact with the expensive window. Constructed from a 0.25 inch thick transparent polycarbonate clear insert and attached to an anodized aluminum threaded ring, it mates with SM2 Lens Tube System components and the proprietary CoV-003 optical mount. With the viewport window thus protected it can be safely used for seeing the interior of the vacuum system. When the principal window is not being employed, this clear safety shield serves as an effective dust cover and can be easily removed for bake-out.
